Frisbee has rearranged some house decorations and decided to ride a reindeer. He continues to do whatever he wants to do in our house.

Elf on the Shelf – Frisbee Wants His Own Silverware

Frisbee is really making himself at home over the past few days. Now our elf on the shelf is requesting we get new silverware which is his size. I guess it would be ok if he ate all our food if he just cleaned up after himself. Is that too much to ask?

Geez. Frisbee is getting a little comfortable around the house. When we invited the Elf on the Shelf, we had no idea that he would be helping himself. I guess it makes sense that with all the travel and magic that he would need some extra energy.

Our Elf on The Shelf has returned again this year. Frisbee is a year older and getting more adventurous around the house. For his first day we caught him dipping into the holiday cheer. This should be an interesting holiday.

… Ninja by night. I spent a little time tonight helping Bear get her form flowing better. She’s really doing well with it. Buddy is a Green Sr and tests for his next belt on Sunday. I’m very happy they are so into this.

On our way to Disney!

At 8am today we started on our surprise trip to Disney near Orlando, Florida! The kids have been the best they could be for such a long drive. Jill has been the best driver and she has driven the whole way! I am so glad she did.

The kids were surprised when they got into the car and saw their big, stuffed Mickey and Minnie Mouse heads sitting in their car seats. We are almost there and can’t wait to get to the Animal Kingdom Lodge to stretch out!!

Our Air Pressure Propelled Car

Our kids love little science experiments. Most recently, we built an air pressure propelled matchbox car. It was super simple to build and our seven year old son knew exactly how to build it.

First, I grabbed a few spare parts that we had around the house … A matchbox car, a balloon, a couple of straws and three rubber bands. We had several types of straws and we ended up going with a bendy straw so we could angle the “motor” properly. The cool moment for me was when I put the items randomly on the floor and our seven year knew exactly what and how we were going to make it. He gave explicit instructions and then explained how air pressure moves from high to low areas in order to reach equilibrium and that the net result would be that the wind from the balloon would push the car across the floor.

The science isn’t difficult at all and neither is the construction. Here it is in action… Post a link to yours if you make one too!!

Statesville Pumpkin Festival

Yesterday was an active day for us. Mostly, we just went to the Statesville Pumpkin Festival and enjoyed the little downtown area. Our kids had a blast on the rides and especially on the big trampoline with the bungee cords. Mom and Dad enjoyed cupcakes and coffee at Sabines News Cafe. There’s not much happening these days at the Edwards house. Hopefully, we will do something really fun over the Thanksgiving Holidays.

101 F at Crowder’s Mountain

Well, it may have been 101 today in the Charlotte area but at least we decided to go hiking with the kids on Crowder’s Mountain during the afternoon during the hottest time of the day. Getting out of the car at about 2pm, Jill and I agreed that we would hike about 30 minutes and then come back. That seems to be about the magic time when the kids lose interest and need snacks. For our hike along Pinnacle Trail, the benches were spread out just enough to give us time to rest for a few minutes and then start back at it. The hike was rated “strenuous” and I agree. All said and done we hike to the top and back in about 3 hours including the little pit stops along the way as well as a 10 minute break at the top. Our hike back was along Turnback Trail and it was significantly less strenuous.

Afterwards we made a stop at Tony’s in Gastonia for a chili dog, onion rings and homemade ice cream. Jill loves the lemon ice cream as seen in the photo.
