Sweep Up The Memories – The Cat In The Hat

My son has a new favorite song he is running around the house and singing. He loves “Sweep” from the Cat In The Hat. Here are the lyrics:

Sweep

Sweep,
Sweep up the memories
those old untidy memories
broken mixed up memories
of what we had one day

Sweep,
Sweep out the nonsense
That crazy happy nonsense
This world’s too old for nonsense
Sweep, just sweep it all away

Everything in a state of grace
Everything back in it’s proper place
No more rainbows for us to chase
No more games to play

Sweep,
Sweep out the laughter
There’s no more time for laughter
At least not until after
I come back – and you know

I
   just
         may.

     – Dr. Seuss, “The Cat in the Hat”

I hope you enjoy it.

Buddy – Ki-Bon – One Week Before Testing

Almost to Yellow Belt Taekwondo Testing!

Buddy and Bear are working very hard to get their yellow belts! Even though he may look a little tired in this movie, he is super stoked that he will soon be a yellow belt! Bear is, of course, excited about everything all the time!

Ylem – My Word of the Day

It has become a less frequent event that I actually try to exercise the vocabulary that I learned thanks to the McColl School and the College of Charleston. It is even more rare that I get to use phrases and concepts from my sciences background. I remember sitting with friends, having a beer and discussing what the most erudite words were that we could think to use in a particular class – pretty nerdy eh?

Anyways, today I caught myself using the word “Ylem”. For those who don’t know the word, it is the primordial substance from which all the elements in the universe were supposed by early philosophers to have been formed.

The fun fact I remember about this is that the ancient people thought that this was water by more modern people to have been Hydrogen and by the Chinese to have been Monosodium Glutamate. How about that?

Bring It, Pigs! … Our Angry Birds Crafts Continue

Our family obsession with Angry Birds continues. We had a fun time making these to give as little gifts to the kids’ friends. I am sure this won’t be our last Angry Birds craft project.

Core Training

B just loves the exercise ball and just saw it was newly available in my office.

Here he is showing me how to do a plank like exercise on it. :)  So funny. What is C doing? Well, she just looks cute in her Christmas dress which she won’t take off.

Super Nephew

Not much to say about this photo except that I am super impressed with how well Jill is learning her camera, mac, and photo software! Woo hoo!

K’Nex Speed Demon Coaster

Our son received the K’Nex Speed Demon Coaster for a birthday gift this year. He loves to put these types of things together. I was a little worried by the “9+” on the side of the box which showed it was a little too old for him. Regardless, we opened it today around 11 am and about 4 hours later we finished it. It’d pretty cool and when you finish it, you will expect to see a small crowd of people outside of your “toy store” staring at it endlessly.

Our two kids love it. It was a little bit of a challenge to keep them focused but they wont quit staring at it now. B has asked that I download other plans from the website for other tracks.  We’ll have to wait and see on that I think.

Edwards / Johnson – Biggest Loser Showdown – Week 3 of 6 Results

I know you are anxiously awaiting these results every week! The competition is still very stiff with lots of obstacles standing in each of the contestants way.  Some of us have traveled and eaten rich food. Some of us have had an extra beer or two on the weekends. Well, what good is a diet if you can’t live it up at least a little bit? I think that the good news of all this is that we are all on a downward trend. We did have two people drop out (actually, not even start) and I will continue to “remind” them about that on this set of blog entries until they start up or at least comment that they quit too early! Apparently, they were “busy”. I know my life has been very easy with zero stress so I can understand. :)

As a reminder, we track two things – who lost the greatest percentage for the week and who has lost the greatest percentage of weight since the beginning.

This past week’s biggest loser was Deanna, having lost 0.47% of herself since the beginning.  This was the second of three weeks were everybody went in the right direction (down).

Here are the total competition standings as of last Sunday – April 25th:

Competition is stiff and there could be a big swing any week! How exciting is this? I bet it is as good as the TV show so stay tuned!
